The aim of this article was to analyse the influence of demographic and household factors, as well as opinions about advertising and legislation, on families’ perceptions of the risk online gambling poses to young people and minors. To this end, we conducted a quantitative analysis based on a survey of 591 individuals representing Spanish households. This enabled us to determine the profile of the segments identified according to awareness and obtain a significant explanatory model based on opinion variables. Our findings indicate the need to implement a consistent regulatory framework, an effective system of self-regulation and a training programme for families on the prevention of behaviour conducive to problem online gambling in minors.
