Michel Maffesoli is one of the present-day sociologists who has most interested himself in the
study of the social effectiveness of imaginary in the sphere of everyday life. In this article, an
attempt is made to delve into the theoretical dimension of social imaginary in this author. The field
in which we move is, then, that of sociological theory, touching on four determinant aspects in its
consideration of social imaginary: the meaning of utopia, issues surrounding modernity, symbolic
integration into neotribalism, and the legitimacy of social order.
