Abstract

The resurgence of the concept of civil society in the social sciences has one of its
manifestations in the increase of the voluntary associations, in the last decades. This resurgence and
increase in the associate participation of the citizen is currently, according to R. Inglehart, one of the
culture shift indicators toward a post-materialistic society. In this search, we seek to define the
concept of civil society following the pattern by J. L. Cohen and A. Arato, and to locate inside this,
the voluntary associations and the Third Sector organizations. We also pursue to demonstrate, on
one hand, that the active members in charitable and social organisations are part of the lance tip of
the values change, and to show, on the other hand, the political and social culture of the voluntary
organisations.
