Abstract

The article presents a model for the analysis for the impact of immigration according to the
material conditionings and institutional factors. Both have an influence, through the mass
media, in three dimensions of the receiving society: urban insecurity, cultural identity and
competence for resources. Although the model was designed for the comparative analysis of four
sourthern European societies (Spain, Greece, Italy and Portugal), the article only presents the
results for the Spanish case.
