Abstract

Among the reasons behind the migration and lifestyle of neo-rurals, those who voluntarily abandon urban life to live in rural areas, the desire for authenticity plays a central role. Jean Baudrillard, in his book, The System of Objects, also reflects on the idea of authenticity from the perspective of consumption. Based on data obtained from an empirical study of a qualitative nature, in this article we examine the neo-rural life, using Baudrillard?s insights to understand and classify neo-rurals into two categories: utopians and pragmatics, depending on the extent to which they address and carry out their break with the urban world, rejected in terms of categories deployed by Baudrillard in order to understanding society
