Abstract

This article looks at the evolution of business associationism in Spain. We follow Franz Traxler's approach, considering the map of business associations to be the result of a gradual accommodation through certain compensatory mechanisms to overcome organisational tensions and representational challenges. We discuss a series of indicators with which to analyse the adaptive character of business associationism. By way of conclusion, our analysis indicates that the CEOE's internal changes are the result of a prolonged erosion of an associational model based on a corporatist, monopolistic confederation, leading towards a more transparent organisation
