Abstract

This article examines the xenophobia that exists on two levels of population density in Almería province: towns and suburbs with high immigrant density levels. We conclude that the density of immigrants encourages xenophobic attitudes and behaviour among the population, both among individuals who live in towns and among those who live in suburbs, as well as the differentiation and segmentation of xenophobia depending on the country of origin. Moreover, negative stereotypes regarding undifferentiated immigrants have a higher xenophobic referent, and this perception decreases as interaction in a neighbourhood context increases.
