The sociology of philosophy is a little-practiced field. However, sociology has its tools for treating philosophy as a specific cultural product while respecting the autonomy of philosophical discourse and the demand for giving social reasons for all
things social which is found at the bottom of the establishing of sociology as a science. This article reviews the acquisitions gleaned from the philosophy of Pierre Bourdieu and the Centre de Sociologie Européenne (CSE), discussing some of their
proposals and asserting the fecundity of most of them for sociological work.
