The income gap between natives and immigrants by its educational level

Since 2016, Spain has been the second country in the European Union with the highest annual immigration, with nearly 40% of immigrants being between the ages of 20 and 35. Given this situation, Spanish society faces the challenge of helping immigrants with their labor market integration. This study analyzes how the income gap between natives and first-generation immigrants varies according to their educational level, distinguishing between EU and non-EU immigrants. Using data from the Spanish National Statistics Institute's (INE) 2019 and 2023 Living Conditions Survey and the Oaxaca-Blinder methodology, it was found that the higher the educational level, the greater the income gap. The findings in this paper are novel because no similar study exists for the Spanish case.
