The crisis of democracy in the USA and the role of foreign policy
Abstract
Donald Trump's second term has generated a new debate about the state of American democracy among political leaders, opinion leaders and academics around the world. Phenomena such as polarization and division of American society have been very present within this debate. However, the role that foreign policy plays has been much less analyzed despite the recent prominence it has had in cases such as the conflicts in Gaza or Ukraine. The analysis concludes that, despite its secondary nature for domestic policy, foreign policy has accompanied and fueled these key phenomena for the future of American democracy.
