Abstract

In our time there is only a fashionable age: the youth. The empresses try to offer sportive
clothes, youthful fashion; gyms and aesthetic surgery clinics proliferate to erase facial rumples.
The importance of youth began to grow in the nineteenth century. Romanticism consecrated
personality and, as personality is often more complex and interesting in the adolescent, consecrated
youth. Second François Boucher, dandyism is the Romanticism of fashion; it means, the
sublimation of personality to the clothes. A century after, inquests made by the CIS have
demonstrated that people under twenty-five considerer their dress as a personality expression
(Cf. n. 3). This brief essay try to probe that nineteenth century dandyism anticipate the
phenomenon of the urban tribes, the equivalence of both phenomenon to the sociologic analysis,
and the contribution of dandyism in the idealized youth that characterize our days.
