Abstract

After presenting a short history of the studies carried out on the use of time and diachronic
and synchronic comparisons, the author reviews the problems encountered with these comparisons
and analyses the differences and similarities in time use in 22 countries and the inequalities of
gender when men and women distribute the 168 hours of each week between work and leisure
time.
