Abstract

From ancient Greece to modernity, myth has been regarded as something opposite to
history, science, reason, and even every day life. In that way, myth was put on the same level
that both ancient and primitive society. However crucial events and processes of modern
and industrial societies may be illuminated when the role of new myths, either in old or new
disguises, is taken into account. Moreover, far from been mere by-products of social life, myths,
at a large extent, shape our history and our society.
