This research note deals with the ideological spaces of the PP and PSOE in Castilla and León, using data on regional deputies obtained from a survey carried out on almost all the members of the Regional Assemblies (Elitecyl 2005). After this, and using the ideological placement and voting behaviour of the citizens of Castilla and León (Barocyl 2006 and Barocyl 2005), an investigation is made of the usefulness of the argument that explains part of election success through the ideological proximity that exists between the parties (party elites) and the electorate, in a reflection on the electoral consequences of the ideological placement of the parties.
