Postmodern thought is one of the most known manifestations of a certain process of
disenchantment about reason as a problem-solving tool which has developed in western societies.
Using as a starting point both an empirical case-study and Lipovetsky’s theory on the ubiquity of
humour in postmodern society, this paper attempts to establish the requiriments that the specialized
production of humorous discourse should fulfill in such state of affairs and asks about the possible
functional relations which might exist between the fitting brand of humour for a postmodern cultural
environment and said process of disenchantment about enlightened reason.
