Disaffection has grown significantly during the current crisis period in Spain. This contradicts the culturalist theses defended by the large majority of researchers who study disaffection. New research questions continue to arise in this new context. This paper aims to verify whether these changes are produced by the political, economic and social crisis, which would corroborate the hypothesis that disaffection is a conjunctural political attitude by using a hierarchical linear cross-classified model. The findings suggest that conjunctural factors play a more important role in the determination of political disaffection in Spain, which highlights the weakness of culturalism in explaining the change.
