Meat Consumption in Spain. Are We becoming a Country of Vegetarians?
Keywords:

This work addresses the evolution of meat consumption in Spain with data from the Family Budget Survey (2006-2022) and National Health Survey (2014-2020). Through logistic regressions, the sociodemographic and lifestyle differences are determined, those who most fit the norm of healthy eating and those who are more and less carnivorous. The results indicate that there have been no relevant changes in the consumption of meat and vegetables that could be pointing to new consumption trends. Contrary to what happens in other countries, in Spain meat consumption linked to social groups with high occupational and educational levels prevails, especially among young men. Vegetarian diets have little implementation and there is cultural resistance to dietary change.
