La victoria de Donald Trump y del Partido Republicano en las elecciones presidenciales de noviembre de 2024 en Estados Unidos se ha sustentado en el apoyo de una nueva coalición electoral de la que ha sido parte un sector de la clase trabajadora, que tradicionalmente apoyaba al Partido Demócrata. Este artículo analiza las razones que han llevado a un sector de la clase trabajadora a abandonar al Partido Demócrata. Muestra que ese abandono ha sido un proceso de décadas y consecuencia del impacto en la clase trabajadora industrial de cambios estructurales en la economía, que llevaron al partido a tratar de ampliar su base electoral y atraer a otros votantes, particularmente los graduados universitarios que han empujado al partido a adoptar políticas que han alienado a un sector de la clase trabajadora.
